Coolest Bonus Grandma Ever at Disney World!

Coolest Bonus Grandma Ever at Disney World!

Hot Hubby and I recently returned from our first trip to Disney World with our youngest grandchildren.  Yikes!  As a newly blended family, I did not want to be known as the loser Grandma, so I did a little pre-trip planning.IMG_0801

First Step:  A trip to Walmart!  I scoured the toy aisle for little Disney presents.  I found stuffed Mickey Mouse, Race Car Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse figurines…you get the idea.  Then I put one a day into our park backpack (a normal backpack with a Mickey embroidery glued on).   When the lines got long or the children needed a change, out comes a new toy!  And because the toys were purchased at Walmart for minimal, there was no major concern if they were lost.  We entertained ourselves in line with Catch, Hide the Mickey, Here Comes a Mouse and all sorts of games.

Second Step:  The Dollar store!  Here I purchased glow sticks, cool blinking Christmas light necklaces and stickers.  Once the sun went down, these glow “wands” came out.  We had fun freezing and unfreezing Hot Hubby and casting all sorts of magical spells.

Third Step:  Snack size baggies and lots of snacks.  Most of the snacks were to keep Hot Hubby in a great mood, but they worked on the grandchildren also.  The highlight for the children was the Stouffer’s animal crackers.  The adults preferred the homemade trail mix (raisins, craisins, cashews and white chocolate chips).

The final step, was getting fast passes for all of the scary rides, and “Switching Off” so that our children (the parents) could ride, while we watched the grandchildren.  Their parents were nervous at first, but after the first ride and the grandchildren survived, we had their vote of confidence.

What do you do to make Disney Trips special for Grandchildren?

Planning Magic Kingdom

Planning Magic Kingdom

Did you know that if you are booking a Disney World vacation and staying on property, you can book your Fast Passes 180 days before departure.  180 days!  I don’t know about you, but Hot Hubby barely thinks a day in advance, so this was a struggle for us.   Luckily for you, I have some advice!

1)  Even if you are not staying on property, make a reservation to stay on property.    We rented a house for our visit, but booked a room at the All-Star Resort for the first night, so we could benefit from all of the “extras” like getting to book our FastPasses 180 days in advance, getting free MagicBands and getting free replacement bands when you lose them….both Hot Hubby and I lost our bands during the trip.

2)  If you plan to get there at rope drop, don’t get any FastPasses for the first 2 hours.  The lines are not long and it will be a waste of the pass, when it is needed later in the day.

3)  Once you use your three Fast Passes, you can book new ones.  There are kiosks and Cast members who can help you use the MyExperience App to book more.

4)  Create a MyExperience Account and install it on your phone.  You will refer to this multiple times in the day, especially when trying to remember your agenda for the day.

5)  Here is what I would use my FastPasses for:

a)  7 Dwarfs Mine Train  – the line was never shorter than 90 min and we were on a non-crowded day

b)  Peter Pan – this old school ride can accommodate the least amount of people and thus has long lines

c) Big Thunder Mountain or Enchanted Tales with Belle – we loved the Enchanted Tales with Belle and got the best pictures of our trip there.

After you use these passes, we were able to get FastPasses for Buzz Lightyear after lunch and Pirates of the Caribbean after dinner.

Try to have the early planning, help to build excitement for your trip.  Disney World is wonderful with or without Fast Passes.  Enjoy!

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is a beautifully made movie but I often wonder how much of her life she missed, because she slept through it.  I have tried to have a “having it all” kind of philosophy, which sometimes means that I choose activity over sleep.  I have explained that “I will sleep when I am dead.”

Now don’t get sleep confused with my bed.  I love my bed and if I could, I would never leave it.  When I get home from work, I slip into my pajamas and head upstairs to my bed.  Pajamas and blankets are the cure for anything.  I think it started when my teenagers took over the house and the only sanctuary was my bedroom.  With my computer and phone, I can do anything I want, in my pajamas in bed.

Recently, I married Hot Hubby, who prizes sleep over anything else.  He will skip meals, television, everything for just a little more sleep.  I think he must be related to Sleeping Beauty, because he is so good at sleeping, he could do it with his eyes closed.  His happiest nights are the ones where he doesn’t have to set an alarm to wake up.

I think our pets agree, because when I get up for my daily exercise, they slip into the warm side of the bed and cuddle up with Hot Hubby.  It always makes me smile.  How much do you love sleeping?snow and jordan spencer

Pajamas for Christmas

It is fall and the stores are featuring pumpkin spice everything, which can only mean one thing….Christmas is coming!  I love Christmas, but I am the worst at buying presents.  Especially for my 10 grandchildren.  They have different interests and keep growing faster than I can track.  But I have found one gift that works every time.  Pajamas!

Disney offers a myriad of pajamas from beautiful princess nightgowns to cool Stitch onesies.  Whatever the interest of the child, there are pajamas to match.  I can handle all of the presents in one location and they are shipped directly to their new home.  And the children are growing so quickly, I am guaranteed that they will need a new one next year.

Don’t you think Hot Hubby will love personalized Mickey Pajamas?
