Planning Magic Kingdom

Planning Magic Kingdom

Did you know that if you are booking a Disney World vacation and staying on property, you can book your Fast Passes 180 days before departure.  180 days!  I don’t know about you, but Hot Hubby barely thinks a day in advance, so this was a struggle for us.   Luckily for you, I have some advice!

1)  Even if you are not staying on property, make a reservation to stay on property.    We rented a house for our visit, but booked a room at the All-Star Resort for the first night, so we could benefit from all of the “extras” like getting to book our FastPasses 180 days in advance, getting free MagicBands and getting free replacement bands when you lose them….both Hot Hubby and I lost our bands during the trip.

2)  If you plan to get there at rope drop, don’t get any FastPasses for the first 2 hours.  The lines are not long and it will be a waste of the pass, when it is needed later in the day.

3)  Once you use your three Fast Passes, you can book new ones.  There are kiosks and Cast members who can help you use the MyExperience App to book more.

4)  Create a MyExperience Account and install it on your phone.  You will refer to this multiple times in the day, especially when trying to remember your agenda for the day.

5)  Here is what I would use my FastPasses for:

a)  7 Dwarfs Mine Train  – the line was never shorter than 90 min and we were on a non-crowded day

b)  Peter Pan – this old school ride can accommodate the least amount of people and thus has long lines

c) Big Thunder Mountain or Enchanted Tales with Belle – we loved the Enchanted Tales with Belle and got the best pictures of our trip there.

After you use these passes, we were able to get FastPasses for Buzz Lightyear after lunch and Pirates of the Caribbean after dinner.

Try to have the early planning, help to build excitement for your trip.  Disney World is wonderful with or without Fast Passes.  Enjoy!

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is a beautifully made movie but I often wonder how much of her life she missed, because she slept through it.  I have tried to have a “having it all” kind of philosophy, which sometimes means that I choose activity over sleep.  I have explained that “I will sleep when I am dead.”

Now don’t get sleep confused with my bed.  I love my bed and if I could, I would never leave it.  When I get home from work, I slip into my pajamas and head upstairs to my bed.  Pajamas and blankets are the cure for anything.  I think it started when my teenagers took over the house and the only sanctuary was my bedroom.  With my computer and phone, I can do anything I want, in my pajamas in bed.

Recently, I married Hot Hubby, who prizes sleep over anything else.  He will skip meals, television, everything for just a little more sleep.  I think he must be related to Sleeping Beauty, because he is so good at sleeping, he could do it with his eyes closed.  His happiest nights are the ones where he doesn’t have to set an alarm to wake up.

I think our pets agree, because when I get up for my daily exercise, they slip into the warm side of the bed and cuddle up with Hot Hubby.  It always makes me smile.  How much do you love sleeping?snow and jordan spencer

Pajamas for Christmas

It is fall and the stores are featuring pumpkin spice everything, which can only mean one thing….Christmas is coming!  I love Christmas, but I am the worst at buying presents.  Especially for my 10 grandchildren.  They have different interests and keep growing faster than I can track.  But I have found one gift that works every time.  Pajamas!

Disney offers a myriad of pajamas from beautiful princess nightgowns to cool Stitch onesies.  Whatever the interest of the child, there are pajamas to match.  I can handle all of the presents in one location and they are shipped directly to their new home.  And the children are growing so quickly, I am guaranteed that they will need a new one next year.

Don’t you think Hot Hubby will love personalized Mickey Pajamas?

A Spectacular Celebration of Global Cuisines, Music & More

A Spectacular Celebration of Global Cuisines, Music & More

The EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival is taking place right now in Florida.  Hot Hubby and I have plans to attend later this year.  We love the creativity, tastes and smells of EPCOT during this event.  I have always loved to eat, but preparing it is another matter.

I have never been a great cook…make that good cook…better say tolerable cook.   So it is a good thing that Hot Hubby doesn’t like to eat.  It makes us the perfect pair.

I once had a discussion with a great cook, who said, “If you can read, you can cook.”  I disagree completely.  I own and have read multiple cookbooks.   I gather all of the ingredients, I measure everything carefully and I get to that dreaded phrase, “season to taste.”   If  I knew how this was supposed to taste, why would I need a cookbook?  It doesn’t tell you with what to season.  So I end up throwing in all of the spices I own, and it tastes awful.

I am a practical person and I hate recipes that call for part of something.  I once tried to make Orange chicken from a recipe that called for half a can of orange concentrateorange chicken.   But what am I supposed to do with the other half?  Not wanting to be wasteful, I just added the whole thing…..not a good idea.  My kids still talk about how awful that chicken was.

Maybe because I am such a horrible cook, it lets me appreciate when I eat something spectacular.  I love the creativity and presentation of the food at Disney.  It always inspires me to want to try harder when I get home.  I just have to make sure I have the fire department on speed dial for my next attempt.foodandwine image

Snow White -Love or Hate her?

Snow White -Love or Hate her?

I have never really bonded with Snow White.  I just can’t relate to a girl who sees a house of 7 men and says, “I can cook for you and clean for you and make your house a home.”  I can’t cook and I only clean when throwing a party.  Hot Hubby, on the other hand, loves Snow White and sees a philanthropist who wants to serve others.

Recently, I have begun to feel like Snow White, so I can like her a little more.  When Hot Hubby moved in, he brought a beautiful cat named Tiger.  Tiger has lived in rural Nevada his entire life and now resides in a neighborhood of Phoenix.  In his new home, Tiger has a doggy door, so he can come and go as he wants.

Living up to his name, Tiger is a hunter and a very good one.  Tiger hunts for lizards, rabbits, birds, and mice.  At first, he brought them home and ate them in the living room.  It was messy, but tolerable.  Then he showed some mice the doggy door, so they came in and made a home.  Tiger noticed that I was not feeding Hot Hubby, so he started bringing home live snakes and rabbits trying to train Hot Hubby to hunt.

Now I am living in Snow White’s cabin in the woods.   Wild animals are running around my home.  Snow White is teaching me to love my situation, sing a happy song and hopefully train the animals to clean my house.   I will let you know how that goes.snow white

Adulting at Disneyland

Adulting at Disneyland

One of my favorite parts about being a grownup is that I can eat good food.  I don’t know about you, but I get so tired of hamburgers, spaghetti & meatballs and french fries.  I am not a health nut and I do sample occasionally from the above assortment.  But the best part about Disneyland are the grown up restaurants.

Now if you have young children, please skip these establishments.  These are the places where I sit with Hot Hubby, away from the noise and the crowds.  And I will give you dirty looks if you bring a child and they don’t behave.  Children love Goofy’s Kitchen and belong there.

Our favorite adulting is done at Carthay Circle in California Adventure.  Carthay Circle Restaurant occupies the 2nd floor of a detailed reproduction of the iconic Carthay Circle Theatre.  In 1937, Disney’s first feature-length film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, premiered there.  The restaurant has hundreds of pictures from that evening and takes you back to a slower pace.  Downstairs, there is a gorgeous bar and waiting area.  But upstairs is the place to be.

I always begin my visit with a walk upstairs to the bathroom.  The wooden paneling, the full length doors on the stalls, the luxury helps my heart beat slower.   Once the my smile has returned, I head downstairs to let the staff know we am here for our reservation.

After a few minutes of hand holding in a corner with Hot Hubby, we are whisked upstairs to begin our immersion.   Upstairs is a quiet respite from the real world.  The waiters are attentive, the food is delicious and the pace is leisurely.

We always start with the Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits.   Can you imagine how good it is to have cheese, bacon, jalapeno all baked into a biscuit?  It is heaven on earth!  We have tried a variety of dinners and each features an amazing assortment of tastes that tickle your tongue and leaving you wishing for cooking lessons.   The menu changes seasonally, so it is always a new experience.

Next time you head to Disneyland and want a little luxury….try Carthay Circle.  Your taste buds and your Hot Hubby will thank you!Hot Hubby in carthay circle

Disney World Planning – Which Days?

Disney World Planning – Which Days?

I am so excited to be going to Disney World in Florida for 7 days in November.  But after the excitement, comes the planning.  I have already made my dining reservations, which you can do 180 days before your trip.

Next step, planning your Fast Pass selections, which you can do 60 days before your trip.  First, I have been researching and have determined which rides I want at each park and I wrote about that in a previous post.   Second, now I need to pick a day for each park, so I can choose the correct ride on the correct day.  It wouldn’t ruin my trip to just wing it, but this is my first trip with my new Bonus children (Hot Hubby’s children) and I am trying to look good….ha ha.

There are Four Parks.  During our visit , Epcot has the Food & Wine Festival, the Food & Wine Marathon and the Very Merry Christmas Party is going on at Disney  World.  These are definitely something to notice and schedule around.  The Food & Wine Festival will be fun, but will make Epcot very crowded on the weekend.   Very Merry Christmas party closes Disney World early and requires a separate ticket, so we will avoid that area, except for the day we have tickets!

We are traveling with little ones, so we will plan to be at the park early, leave after lunch for nap time (not sure who will need this most the kids, or Hot Hubby).  Then return to the park for late afternoon fun.

Here is my plan:

Sunday – Animal Kingdom – 9 am – 7 pm  start small and build up

Monday – Hollywood Studios – 9 am – 8 pm

Tuesday – Magic Kingdom 9am – 9 pm Late start to see Fantasmic

Wednesday –  Epcot – Princess dinner reservations

Thursday – Magic Kingdom – Very Merry Christmas Party

Friday – Magic Kingdom

I probably need to put a day off in there, but what should I move?  I am too excited to think about a day at the pool instead of a day with MICKEY!  Maybe if I just put two late start days into the schedule, I won’t be totally exhausted by Saturday…..but if I am….i can sleep at home!
