What’s around the River Bend?

What’s around the River Bend?

My mother has a saying, “Life is not a parking lot. It is more of an ocean.”  She describes all of the change that is never-ending in your life.   People always expect life to be the same, but in reality, it is rolling like an ocean.

Some people, like Pocahontas, embrace this change.  She explains in “Just Around the River Bend,”

What I love most about rivers is:pocahontas
You can’t step in the same river twice
The water’s always changing, always flowing

But people, I guess, can’t live like that
We all must pay a price

To be safe, we lose our chance of ever knowing
What’s around the river bend
Waiting just around the river bend

I dramatically changed my life and that of my family, by marrying Hot Hubby.  I knew I was making the right choice, but I knew my family dynamic of “Three Musketeers” would be no longer.  Now when the family assembles, every one still wants their one on one time with Mom.  I try to accommodate the requests, but someone always feels left out or slighted.  As a result, I feel pulled in multiple directions.  I try to please everyone, but end up pleasing no one.

Pocahontas embraces what’s around the river bend.   I think I know what is around this river bend.  My girls will only want my attention, until they get a husband of their own.  The pull will end, when they have their own children to chase.  I will have grandchildren to love and treasure.  Our family will grow larger and stronger.  And I get to grow old with a  wonderful man.  I think that is worth whatever waterfall or rapids we are traversing right now.   Don’t you?

Good Bye Old Friend

Good Bye Old Friend

This week was the last trip through The Great Movie Ride.   If you haven’t been to Hollywood Studios, this is a movie-themed ride that took you through the best scenes of classic movies.  The ride officially closed on August 17, 2017, to be replaced with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

The Ride has animatronic figures, live actors, special effects, movie sets and projections to create iconic scenes from twelve classic films throughout motion picture history.  The outside of the ride was styled to look like the Famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, one of Hollywood’s most famous movie palaces.  It even had handprints in cement, which is just like Grauman’s.disney handprints

Inside the ride featured scenes from famous movies such as  Gene Kelly swinging from a lamp post from Singin’ in the Rain, followed by Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke singing on the rooftops of London from Mary Poppins.  There was a Western, a Gangster movie, Casablanca was featured as well as The Wizard of Oz.  It was a great ride, but the most current movie featured, Raiders of the Lost Ark was released in the 1981.

Disney fans are always split when this happens.  Half are extremely sad and don’t want any changes to ever come to Disney World.   Others are eagerly awaiting the new ride and can’t wait to see what the Imagineers have created for us.   I love tradition, but The Great Movie Ride felt old-fashioned and out of date to me. I am definitely in the second crowd.  Hot Hubby does not like change and he is still pouting.
