Woody is Home!!

Woody is Home!!

I love all things Disney.  And my kids were the perfect age for the Toy Story movies.  I loved Toy Story!  I frequently quote the line “There is a snake in my boot,” for easing the tension in a situation. My daughter is named Jesse, so we fit right into Toy Story 2.

I have a small issue from the Toy Story 3, because I still have a few toys from my mother and have saved my most treasured toys, to share with my grandchildren.  I just don’t understand why someone would let those favorite toys leave the family.  Andy  must be a minimalist who is cleaning house, or he didn’t really love those toys.

Disney is having the last laugh though, as Woody comes home!   On June 30, 2018 the Toy Story Land will open in Hollywood Studios and this week a giant Woody was installed to watch over the land.

From the Disney Parks Woody in Toy Story landblog, “Standing nearly 20 feet tall, Woody will appear as a part of the new Toy Story Land marquee, which sits just in front of one of the land’s most anticipated attractions, the Slinky Dog Dash coaster. He’s tipping his hat (which measures 7’ feet, brim to brim!), next to the marquee, which is made out of blocks and a 4-foot-tall yo-yo – just a few of the many toys that make up Toy Story Land.”

Welcome home Woody!

Have you seen what Walgreen’s has now?  They are shaped like Mickey Mouse.  They produce a lot of air.  They have three messages to entertain you while you feel relief from the summer sun.  They are Mickey Mouse fans!  I am a fan!  You would expect to pay a lot for these, but they are $6 at Walgreen’s.  Go!  Go NOW!

Whew!  It has been a great week for merchants, but a really bad week for my bank account.  Well, my imaginary bank account, because I can’t actually purchase any of the items that are featured this week.

On Monday, Coach launched a line of Minnie Mouse handbags, coin purses and bag tags.  They are stunning with their adorable dots and Minnie ears.  But holy budget Batman, the cheapest item was $95, which was a bag tag.   Aren’t those free at the airport?  I must be the only one with budget constraints, because the entire site was sold out by Monday afternoon.

Mickey Dutch Oven

Now the kitchen can join the bandwagon, as Le Creuset has launched a Mickey Mouse Dutch Oven.  It is bright red, with Mickey Mouse featured all around it and on the handle.  I am not much of a cook, but even my humble oven would love a dash of red Mickey Mouse….until I saw the price tag.   I don’t know how much the Dutch cook, but my entire stove did not cost as much as this Dutch Oven.   I am not even sure what you make with a Dutch Oven, but I won’t be making it at my house.

Maybe in my dream, I will sit on my Ethan Allen Mickey Mouse chair, I will eat a home cooked meal from my Mickey Mouse Dutch Oven and happily swing my Minnie Coach purse.  But for now, I will admire them from a distance.

What Disney merchandise do you admire?

Disney Connects Us All

Today, I was sitting at my Blue Work space and I happened to notice the purse on the space next to me.  It was a Dooney-Bourke Mickey Mouse purse.  I knew instantly that this was a person I needed to meet.  I asked around, but no one recognized the purse, or remembered who had left it there.  Eventually, the owner returned to her desk and I introduced myself.  We had a quick chat and talked all things Mickey Mouse.  It was the highlight of my day.

Whether you know it or not, there is a passionate army of adult women on the Internet, in your office, and maybe even in your home who are obsessed with Disney. They make multiple trips to the theme parks each year, collect Disney-themed items, and even dress up as Disney characters — on days other than Halloween. More than seven million millennial women devoured articles about Disney this year on POPSUGAR.  Many of these women, who grew up on The Little Mermaid and The Lion King, have celebrated 30th birthdays, honeymoons, and even weddings at a Disney resort.

Disney fans know that many people don’t get it. Almost unanimously, they said that the number one misconception about them is that they are immature. But before you judge your co-worker, high school friend on Facebook, or distant family member for their age-inappropriate Disney fangirling on social media, at least try to understand just what Mickey and his gang of princesses do for them.

In an age of aspirational social media and highly curated brands online, Disney nails it — in real life. For a generation that looked to Internet personality quizzes to tell them something about themselves, Disney can reflect your true self. Your favorite park, movie, or character is a reflection of your personality. Loving Disney gives you an identity. It means you are a person who believes in magic, happiness, and imagination.

What is the reason that you love Disney?
